Íslandsbanki provides financing for new container vessels
Eimskip, Iceland's largest shipping company has signed a contract, commissioning the construction of two new container vessels. An agreement between Eimskip and Íslandsbanki has been reached on the Bank providing financing for up to 30% of the estimated ISK 5.8bn cost of construction.
The vessels, designed by German engineers and built in China, are due to be delivered in the first half of 2013. The vessel capacity is 875 TEUs, deadweight 12,000t, length overall 140.7m, breadth 23.2m, draft 8.7m, and service speed 18.3 knots. The vessels will enter into service on the currently fully utilized Southern Route in 2013.
