Over 14 thousand participants in Islandsbanki Reykjavik maraþon
A record number of runners participated in the 30th Islandsbanki Reykjavik maraþon, which has become the single biggest sport- and family event in Reykjavík with more than 14 thousand participants running different distances.
Over 70 million ISK have been donated as all runners can run for a good cause which is substantially more donations than last year when the total amount raised was approximately 46 million ISK.
Over 2,000 foreign participants ran in the Islandsbanki Reykjavik maraþon from over 70 different countries. James Buis (UK) won the marathon when he crossed the finish line in 2:33:49. Melanie Staley was the female winner in the marathon distance and her time was 2:55:14. Kári Steinn Karlsson and Helen Ólafsdóttir were the half marathon winners. Kári’s time was 1:07:40 and Helen’s time was 1:22:57. Kevin Rojas Anderson was the male winner in the 10 km run, his time being 31:50. Arndís Ýr Hafþórsdóttir was the female winner in 38:37.
