Declaration of responsible tourism

A declaration on responsible tourism was endorsed by leaders from over 250 companies at Reykjavik University on January 10th 2017 in the presence of the President of Iceland, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, who is also patron of the project. Vilhelm Mar Thorsteinsson, Director of Corporate Finance, signed the declaration on behalf of the Bank.

Festa – the Center for Corporate Social Responsibility and the Iceland Tourism Cluster support the project in cooperation with the Tourist Board, SAF, Promote Iceland, Regional Marketing Offices of Iceland, Visit Reykjavík and Safetravel Iceland.

Responsible tourism is an incentive project where companies connected with tourism agree on a limited number of clear and simple measures of responsible tourism. The purpose of the project is to maintain Iceland‘s status as an optimal future destination for tourists by supporting sustainability for future generations of the nation.

The main goals are:

  1. Demonstrate exemplary behaviour and respect for nature.
  2. Ensure the safety of our guests and treat them courteously.
  3. Respect the rights of employees.
  4. Have a positive impact on the local community.
