Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon 2017 breaks record in pledges to charity

As of last night’s midnight deadline for pledges to charity in connection with the Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon, the amount pledged on the hlaupastyrkur.is website had set a new record. Over ISK 118m were pledged in support of 152 charities, an increase of 20% over last year’s total of ISK 97m.

Some 15,000 participants took part in the race this year, including about 4,000 foreign runners from 87 countries.

Ever since hlaupastyrkur.is was launched in 2006, a total of ISK 663m have been collected for worthy causes. The Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon offers participants several options: a marathon (42.2 km), a half-marathon (21.1 km), a 10 km race, a Fun Run, and George's Wacky Outfit Race. Further information on the Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon can be found online at rmi.is.
